On Thursday, May 18, 2023, Joseph Shapiro will co-present the continuing legal education presentation (CLE) entitled Psychedelics: Law, Legislation, and Litigation in 2023 at the New Jersey State Bar Association’s (NJSBA) 2023 Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlantic City. The CLE will include an appearance by New Jersey Assemblyman Herb Conaway, Jr.
Joseph is the Co-Chair and Co-Founder of the Psychedelics Law Subcommittee of the NJSBA Cannabis Law Committee and is on the Executive Board of that Committee. The CLE is cosponsored by the Cannabis Law Committee, will cover the rapidly accelerating legal, legislative and litigation developments related to America’s emerging psychedelics industry. It will provide overviews of the federal legal status of psychedelics, the various processes by which U.S. states and municipalities are enacting and implementing psychedelics laws, current psychedelics laws from across the country, pending psychedelics legislation introduced in New Jersey and New York, the similarities and differences between the evolutions of New Jersey’s cannabis and psychedelics industries, ramifications for mental health treatment in New Jersey and beyond, and leading industry litigations (particularly AIMS v. DEA, currently pending before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals).
